SC New Dems are...

The SC New Democrats are both a think tank and a do tank - an action-oriented public policy organization which gives a voice to people who want to move politics beyond the old left-right debates of the past, and seeks to build support for a new public philosophy built on progressive ideals, mainstream values and innovative non-bureaucratic solutions to the challenges facing South Carolina's families.

Working through its statewide membership the SC New Democrats has developed an ambitious Action Plan for South Carolina. The three goals of the Plan are to:

  1. Develop New Policy Ideas that can be turned into concrete actions that will help the families of our state. This will be done by:

    • forming Issue Councils to develop new ideas and policy papers,

    • publicizing these new ideas through a series of op-ed pieces in newspapers across the state.

  2. Encourage the Development and Support of Progressive People and Ideas throughout South Carolina by:

    • sponsoring DLC Message Seminars where elected officials and community leaders can learn more about New Democrat ideas,

    • providing books, manuals, tapes, and other valuable resources to community leaders which will prove valuable in their efforts to further New Democrat goals,

    • establish a Progressive Democratic Network of elected officials, business and grass roots community leaders and others who support the SC New Democrats's new ideas and policies.
